Nestor M. Delgado (Interviewed)                                          June 21, 2015 - Oklahoma City Oklahoma, USA.

1. Can you tell me about you?

Answer: I am a social psychologist with a Master Degree in organizational leadership from Mid America Christian University. I am the president and creator of the program "Learning to Love". This is an educational program for individuals, marriages and organizations, which is changing the way in which thousands of people think and feel about love in a couple relationship. Our goal is to build healthy, stable and happy families.

2. Do you believe in God?

Answer: As a social psychologist many people are asking me the same question. Many of them are surprised by my answer. Yes, I believe that we have a loving heavenly Father.

3. If science and religion does not fit. How do you explain the dynamic between psychology and religion?

Answer: God has created science. Psychology is a science to help individuals, families and organization to reach high levels of wellbeing. Then, science, psychology and God can't be in disagreement. Maybe some scientist does not believe in God. Maybe some Christians do not believe in science. However, we can perceive science as one of God's way to express His love for us. Just think about this: how many of our little kids would die if antibiotics did not exist? How many of them would not walk if Jonas Salk and Dr. Thomas Francis Jr. did not discover the polio vaccines? Some of the most important psychologists have discovered more ways to stop depression, anxiety and helping millions of families to offer forgiveness before divorce, keeping families together; psychologist are helping millions of people to stop the suicidal thoughts and offering a different perception of life. "From God comes knowledge and understanding" (Proverb 2:6).  Of course there are some disagreements, especially when human beings are using the logic of brain without the logic of the spirit. "For My thoughts are not your thoughts..." (Isaiah 55:8). I can count thousands of examples and tell you that science is one of our Heavenly Father's expressions of love and compassion.  God can inspire man to develop more ways for our wellbeing and using science to do that.

4. What do you think about people who do not believe in God?

Answer: God still believes in people who do not believe in Him.  We all are His children (1 John 3:1-2).  He loves all without exceptions.  God can understand them because He created all human beings. He has all the patience and the time to wait for them. God gave to us the freedom of choice, of thinking and having doubts.  He likes our questions and doubts, He expects and will answer them (Matthew 7:7). The authoritarian God, who is interested only in our obedience without any questions; who is not spending quality time with us to discuss our doubts and question doesn't exist.

5. How do you explain the different religions and beliefs? Who has the truth?

Answer: God made us with the ability to perceive and to interpret according to our knowledge and personal experiences. Everyone has different levels of knowledge and unique experiences in life; therefore, we perceive different the scriptures and God's word. That is not a problem if we accept and respect each other, if we work as a team to understand our Heavenly Father better. The problems begin when a person or a specific religion is trying to fight against the different perceptions and beliefs of others. When they are trying to disqualify others and defend their exclusivity of God's revelation. When people and religion are focused on their differences the only result is confusion, conflicts, un-forgiveness and resentment. Human beings have to focus on their values and beliefs that they have in common. The apostle Paul taught that we have to use our freedom (different perceptions) to serve one others through love instead of fight: "For the whole law is fulfilled in one statement, namely, you shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Galatians 5:13-15). Instead of fighting about who has the truth we have to apply this principle and love our neighbor as we love ourselves.

God is calling everyone to different places to serve. He accepts our different personalities, our different styles to worship Him, our different personal experiences.  He accepts and uses all His children to teach and grow up together. He has a mission for each of us in different places. If you feel well worshiping and serving God and your neighbor in a specific group or religion, I believe that that is your calling.  Listening to your spiritual voice inside you... that is the voice of Jesus.

6. What is the connection between a married couple and God?

Answer: God has created marriage. Couples need to understand that their personal relationship with God (spiritual development) is the most important task if they want to have the marriage of their dreams. They can't place the responsibility of their happiness on their spouses.  Their spouses are human beings.  Only God can satisfy all their emotional needs.

Through science we have understood that people have many distorted beliefs about the love between a woman and man. This is the reason because of the high levels of divorce, cohabitation and dysfunctional families. God is inviting us to renew our mind and be transformed (Romans 12:2). The imperfect human love is not enough to keep a couple's relationship alive. God wants to share new knowledge and wisdom, new tools to improve the quality of love, communication and to increase our ability to solve the normal conflicts in a marriage. This is the reason because our educational program exists.

"Learning to Love" want to serve individuals, families and organization in Latino America and USA.  This is the reason because we have created a curriculum to serve believers and not believers. We want to serve everyone. Knowledge is for everyone. God loves all His children. There are no exceptions.
